HOW ARE BEDFORD STUDENTS USING TECHNOLOGY?
Students in Bedford learn about establishing a positive digital footprint and how to be responsible, respectful and safe online. Digital Citizenship curriculum is integrated in the K-8 curriculum. Student groups promote the use of digital citizenship by creating digital materials and resources for students to remember these important tips.
Students are provided with a variety of formative assessment opportunities in the classroom such as Kahoot, Socrative, Padlet, and Google forms to share their learning by integrating multimedia.
The use of videoconferencing tools such as Skype and Google Hangouts provides the opportunity for students in Bedford to connect and collaborate with students throughout the world. This technology also provides opportunities to engage with professionals that students would not otherwise be able to encounter in person. This has included people like Lemony Snickett, the author of the Series of Unfortunate Events books; the world renowned primatologist, Jane Goodall, who is considered to be the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees; and scientists at Goddard Space Center.
Bedford is a Google Apps for Education district. This allows students cloud based resources to create, manage and share their learning. Many of these tools increase productivity as they are accessible anywhere, anytime.
Chromebooks provide the flexibility for anytime and anywhere learning.
Students are building presentations using a variety of tools such as Powtoon, Prezi, Google Slides, and many more! This allows students choice, personalization, and freedom to share their learning to best meet their strengths and needs.
Students are using online curriculum materials that allow them to interact with text and multimedia to provide a deeper understanding of the material with multi-modality components.
Students are publishing their work online to create digital stories to share with students and family.
Students are using online libraries to access a variety of reading materials based on their own interests and reading level.
Students and teachers learn and share with each other using a variety of learning management systems such as Edmodo, Schoology, Google Classroom, and teacher built websites.
